Having been in business in Southeast Texas since 1986, we at American Steam-A-Way have compiled a vast amount of stain cleaning solutions and tips that have been proven to work, and would like to share some of them with our visitors.
CHOCOLATE STAINS:
Chocolate can contain grease, oil, cocoa, butter, Sugar, coloring and dairy products.
Cleaning Ingredients:
*Ammonia 1 Tbsp. Clear household ammoinia in ½ cup water. Must Pre-test.
*Deteregent 1-2 drops colorless, mild detergent in 1 cup lukewarm water.
*Enzyme Detergent – Mix enzyme detergent per instructions on package. Allow to remain on stain for
Recommended time . Do not over wet. CAUTION: ENZYMES CAN DAMAGE NATURAL FIBERS LIKE WOOL. USE WITH CARE OR CALL US.
*White Vinegar 1/3 cup white household vinegar in 2/3 cup water.
Directions:
- Scrape off as much as possible with a dull edge knife or spatula.
- Apply cool detergent solution, blot.
- Apply ammonia solution, blot.
- Apply vinegar solution, blot.
- Apply enzyme detergent, blot
- Rinse thoroughly with water, blot until dry.
PET SOIL STAINS:
Pet soil or vomit is a mixture of salvia, stomach acids and digestive waste products. This mixture can stain the pile of a carpet and leave a persistent odor. See the tips below to cleanup the stain.
Cleaning Ingredients:
*Ammoinia 1 Tbsp. clear household ammonia in ½ cup water. Must Pre-test.
*Detergent 1-2 drops colorless detergent or dish washing liquid in 1 cup of lukewarm water.
*Enzyme detergent – Mix enzyme detergent per instructions on package and allow to remain on stain for the recommended time. Do not over wet.

*White vinegar 1/3 cup – white household vinegar in 2/3 cups of water.
Directions:
- Immediately blot up or pick up as much material as possible using paper towels or a clean, white cloth. If necessary, a tablespoon makes a good scraper.
- Apply vinegar solution, blot.
- Apply detergent solution, blot.
- Apply pressure to the spot with the back of a tablespoon to work spotting solution deep into spot. DO NOT SCRUB…as this can cause nap distortion of the fiber.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean cool water, blot until dry.
RED WINE STAIN
Red wine contains sugar, tannin, alcohol, and various color agents. The spills result in an absorbed type of stain that is reddish or purplish in color.
Cleaning Ingredients:
*Ammonia 1 Tbsp. Clear household ammonia in ½ cup water. Must pre-test.
*Detergent 1-2 drops colorless, detergent or dish washing liquid in 1 cup lukewarm water.
